Pet animals from the regions affected by hurricanes Irma and Maria

Considering that we are facing a natural disaster, Community legislation provides for the possibility of being authorized the entry of pet animals not in accordance with the applicable Community rules, by request of a prior authorization by the owners and isolation of the animals under official control until compliance with all applicable sanitary conditions.

So, this general directorate allows the entry of these pet animals, and for this purpose the owners must contact the Official Veterinary Services of the airport of destination in advance (Travellers’ Point of Entry), either by mail, by phone or by other available means, communicating the date and flight number, as well as the animal data (for dogs and cats, regarding identification, vaccination against rabies and if applicable rabies antibody test).

However, due to the situation, even if the owner does not make any contact, the entrance of the animal will be allowed. DGAV will establish the conditions to be fulfilled.
